Flipping
Flipping is buying a card with the intent to resell it quickly for a profit, rather than to keep it. It relies on reading comps and buying below market.
A flipper looks for cards priced below their comps, buys them, and resells at or near market, pocketing the difference. It can mean cracking and regrading, buying underpriced listings, or riding a player's momentum.
Flipping has real costs that eat into profit: marketplace and payment fees, shipping, and sometimes grading fees.
Why it matters: done well, flipping funds a collection, but the margins are thinner than they look once fees are counted, so knowing your true break-even on every card is what separates profit from busywork.
This glossary is a plain-language reference for collectors, not financial or purchasing advice. Card values move, so always check recent sales before you buy or sell.
