Chase card

Also called: grail, holy grail

A chase card is a card collectors specifically pursue within a set or for a player. The single card you want most of all is often called your grail.

Every product has a few headline cards everyone wants, the big autographs, the case hits, the rare parallels, and these are the chase cards. On a personal level, your "grail" is the one card you would most love to own, the top of your personal collection wish list.

What counts as a chase is part scarcity and part demand, so a common card of a beloved player can still be a chase.

Why it matters: chase cards concentrate a set's value and attention, so they tend to hold demand best and are what breaks and pack openers are hoping to hit.

This glossary is a plain-language reference for collectors, not financial or purchasing advice. Card values move, so always check recent sales before you buy or sell.
