Autograph

Also called: auto, on-card auto, sticker auto

An autograph card carries a player's signature, either signed directly on the card (on-card) or on a clear sticker applied to it (sticker auto). On-card autos are generally preferred.

An "auto" is a card with a real signature. There are two main kinds: an on-card autograph is signed directly onto the card surface, while a sticker autograph is signed on a clear label that the manufacturer then places on the card. Collectors usually value on-card signatures more because they look cleaner and feel more authentic.

Autographs are often combined with memorabilia, as in a rookie patch auto, and most are serial numbered.

Why it matters: signed cards are among the most valuable in any product, and whether an auto is on-card or sticker, plus the print run, can meaningfully change its price.
