Serial numbered
Also called: numbered card, /99, numbered to
A serial numbered card is stamped with its place in a limited print run, such as 25/99, meaning the 25th of only 99 made. Lower print runs mean greater scarcity.
A serial number, usually printed on the front or back as something like 12/50, tells you exactly how many copies of that card exist and which one you hold. Most colored parallels, inserts, and autographs are numbered, and the number shrinks as the card gets rarer.
The rarest version of all is the 1-of-1, numbered 1/1, meaning a single copy exists.
Why it matters: the print run is one of the clearest signals of value. A card numbered to 5 is far scarcer than the same card numbered to 99, and "jersey number" matches (for example 23/23 for a player who wore 23) carry an extra premium.
