Die-cut

A die-cut card is trimmed into a shape other than a standard rectangle during manufacturing. The cut is intentional and part of the design, not damage.

Instead of the usual rectangle, a die-cut card is punched into a custom shape, think stars, shields, or intricate outlines, as a design feature. Many premium inserts use die-cutting to stand out.

Because of the shape, die-cuts can be a little more fragile at the points and corners, which is worth keeping in mind for storage and grading.

Why it matters: die-cut inserts are often eye-catching chase cards, and their shape is a selling point rather than a flaw, provided the edges are clean.
