Insert

An insert is a card from a themed subset outside the base checklist, seeded randomly into packs. Inserts have their own design and name, like Topps Chrome's or Panini's chase inserts.

Where base cards and parallels share the product's main design, an insert is its own little set within the product, with a distinct look and a name of its own. They are inserted into packs at set odds, so some are easy to pull and some are tough.

Popular, long-running insert lines build their own followings and can be chased harder than base cards of the same player.

Why it matters: a sought-after insert of a star can outsell that player's base card, and the rarer, serial numbered versions of an insert carry the biggest premiums.
